Internships Beyond Broome County

Internship Listings

Students may participate in full-time credit-bearing internships during the fall and spring semesters beyond the Binghamton University area. Whether these internships are with the New York State Assembly, the Disney Program, the Washington D.C. Program, or any other full time, full semester professional opportunity, students are able to participate without jeopardizing their financial aid or medical insurance standing.

Participation in the Internships Beyond Broome County (IBBC) program (OCC 495) requires a great deal of student initiative. Students must contact the organization of interest directly and follow the application process as outlined by that organization. Once the internship has been secured, students must complete a proposal for credit, and the agency must complete a site description form for the Career Development Center. The acceptance letter from the agency must also be submitted to CDC. Once the proposal and description have been approved, CDC may enroll the student in the OCC 495 program for 4-12 credits, dependent upon the need of the student and the requirement of the respective agency. Prior to enrollment in the internship program, students must secure the remaining credits needed to maintain full time status from their department of major.

When does the process begin?
Students must secure the internship beyond Broome County in the semester prior to the semester in which the actual internship will be conducted. Students must attend an Internship Advising Session or meet with internship coordinator in CDC prior to submitting required material to the program.

What are the requirements?
. Students must have at least sophomore status and be in good academic standing
. Students must commit a minimum of 30 hours per week at the agency
. Employment as an intern must be for a minimum of 12 weeks
. All academic assignments must be submitted to the OCC faculty leader, as specified during a mandatory orientation (prior to beginning the internship.)

*Attendance at the advising sessions for this program is NOT required.*
