Summer Internships

The summer internship program emphasizes community and public service while supporting student initiative. Students learn about the nature of the workplace and how community organizations and people function together to create a network of contacts and agencies.

The summer internship program (OCC-394/494) has the potential for great individual flexibility. Students have the opportunity to, not only apply to one of the listing agencies, but also, to find their own internship placement. Currently, internship opportunities are available in Broome county, New York City and Washington DC areas, as well as other cities throughout the United States.

Students participating in the summer program enroll in a two or four credit internship. In addition to the work at the host site, students are provided with a faculty mentor who assign and grades the academic work of the internship. Students are required to maintain regular contact with the assigned faculty mentor throughout the entire time of the internship. The summer internship is a normal or P/F grading option course.

If you need information about specific agencies' requirements, click on Internship Listings. Remember, you need to start early in the Spring semester in order to find your own placement.
