A Message to Law School Applicants

If you are using your CDC Credentials File to gather letters of recommendation for law school, here is some important information:

  • Your CDC Credentials File is an excellent way to gather letters of recommendation for law school. If you plan to apply to law school after graduation, this often is the best way to request letters of recommendation from faculty before you leave Binghamton.
  • Many law schools prefer confidential letters of recommendation
  • Registration for the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS), a service of the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), is required for the law school application process.
  • Most law schools prefer to receive letters of recommendation through the LSDAS. LSDAS can be used in conjunction with the CDC Credentials Service.
  • To send your CDC letters to LSAC, you must provide the LSDAS Letter of Recommendation (LOR) form to CDC for each letter, in addition to the CDC credentials request form and payment. The LOR form can be printed from your online account at LSAC.
  • Do not use your CDC file to gather transcripts for law school! Transcripts must be sent to the LSAC directly from the registrar's office of the colleges and universities you have attended, using a transcript request form from your online account at LSAC.
  • To send your Binghamton transcript to the LSAC, submit your LSAC transcript request form to the Registrar's Office in SW 119.
  • Do not use your CDC file for your law school resume! Your resume should be included as an attachment to your law school application.
  • Questions about letters of recommendation for law school and the law school admissions process? See the Pre-Law Advisor in SW 110 (Pre-law Advising in the Harpur Academic Advising Office).
  • Dean's certifications for students and alumni of all BU schools are prepared in Harpur Advising.
