Credentials Tutorial
Alumni:
CDC has introduced online features of the Credentials service. Alumni are encouraged to utilize these convenient features to verify file content and the status of requests. Access to the online Credentials service is available only through B-Connected, the Binghamton University Alumni Association's Online Community. All Binghamton graduates have free access to this web site. First time users register by verifying that they are a Binghamton University graduate.
To Open a Credentials File:
- Register with B-Connected
- Click on the Career Development Center Credentials File Service link from the B-Connected homepage menu and follow the instructions.
Policies, procedures, confidential reference letter waiver forms and the credentials request forms are available under forms in the Credentials menu of our website and at the CDC in LSG 500 or LNG 300.
There is no fee to open and maintain a file. There is a $5.00 fee for each set of credentials documents sent to each prospective employer or graduate school. Payment is accepted in the form of cash, check or money order made payable to CDC. Credit cards are not accepted.
Authorization to release file contents:
The contents of your credentials file are private and protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. For this reason, CDC is extremely careful about releasing materials. When you open your file, you will be able to select the manner in which your file can be released. Your choices are:
- Only at your request;
- At your request or the request of a designated individual whose name you provide; or
- At your request or the request of a potential employer or graduate school.
Authorizing CDC to release credentials file materials at the written request of employers and graduate schools eliminates the step of CDC contacting you to obtain a written release when such requests are received. If you authorize CDC to send your file at the request of a potential employer or graduate school, requested materials will be sent and you will be billed for the appropriate charges.
