Updating, Changing, or Transferring Materials

Student requests to destroy materials
It is in your best interest to have current materials in your file (résumé, transcripts, reference letters). If items are outdated, or no longer relevant, consider removing them from your file. All requests to have any materials in your file removed must be in writing or complete a Request to Destroy Materials form and mail to CDC. These materials will be destroyed.

Author requests to remove, amend or update letters
Occasionally an author will ask to remove a reference letter from a file. Such requests must be in writing and the letter will be destroyed. The student or graduate will be notified in writing. Students and graduates are also notified of any requests from authors to amend or update previously submitted letters. A signed updated confidential reference letter waiver form must accompany the updated or amended letter to be considered confidential.

Transferring file materials to another institution
Students who transfer or alum using a credentials service at another institution may wish to transfer Binghamton file materials. Submit a written request and a $5.00 payment and a copy will be forwarded. Original letters are retained in CDC for ten years past the last date of use.

Any changes to your file contents can be viewed through the Credentials section of the CDC website or the Students Services Tools on the BU Brain (students) or through B-Connected (alumni).
