Referring Students to CDC

The Career Development Center works with students at every academic level, from first year student to PhD candidates. Our services and resources assist with a range of career issues and include printed and online resources, individual assistance, programs and special events. As you meet with students, encourage them to use:

CDC website
Encourage students to visit our website for detailed information about various career topics, links to useful websites, information about our services and a schedule of programs and events.

Counseling
CDC counselors are available during Counselor-on-Call or by private appointment to speak with students about majors, careers and other career concerns. Call 777-2400 to schedule.

Credentials File
Encourage students to establish a credentials file with CDC to maintain reference letters and other documents to support their application for positions and advanced study. Many faculty and staff prepare letters for these files which make managing reference letters easier for both students and recommenders.

Career Advancement Program (CAP)
This is a revolving loan fund to which students may apply for funds to support expenses associated with exploring career interests, pursuing an internship, applying to graduate school, or seeking employment. CAP is an interest-free loan of up to $300 for a period of six months. The loan can be repaid over time or all at once. More information and application.

eRecruiting
ALL undergraduates have unrestricted access to this premier job and internship search tool.  Students log in to view hundreds of job and internship opportunities, connect with employers, and learn more about career fields of interest. Grad Students must register for eRecruiting in CDC North.

Events
CDC hosts employers, graduate/professional schools and law schools at major events throughout the year. These are important opportunities for your students to meet face-to-face with representatives from organizations and institutions who are interested in Binghamton candidates. In addition, CDC sponsors etiquette dinners where alumni, faculty/staff and employers help students learn and practice important skills for professional success. Encourage attendance at these valuable events.

Programs
CDC offers a range of programs throughout the year to help students learn about careers, find an internship or job, prepare a resume/cover letter, apply to graduate school, and prepare for interviews.

Dates/times are posted on our website and in eRecruiting. Consider requiring attendance at a program as part of course requirements.

Resume Writing
For information on the basics of writing an effective resume, encourage students to attend one of our programs, and/or read the Quick Reference Guide on Resume Writing. After a student prepares a draft, we will be happy to provide feedback during Counselor-on-Call or our Resume Review hours.

Quick Reference Guides
