Welcome Parents and Family Members!

Binghamton University’s Career Development Center (CDC) provides a wealth of services and resources to help your Binghamton student plan for life’s many career transitions.  As you probably know from personal experience, career preparation happens inside and outside the classroom.  One’s career path does not emerge solely through the study of a particular undergraduate major, but through a combination of variables and experiences.  An undergraduate major does not define or limit what and who someone can become forever.  Whether they begin college with a clearly defined career goal or enter ‘undecided’ about a major and career direction, chances are your student’s thoughts and passions will shift during their four years of college. This is normal.  The important thing is that they actively engage in their university experience, explore and test their interests, gain skills and competencies that employers want, and reflect on what they learn. 

The CDC staff is eager to assist your Binghamton student in learning about careers, gaining career-related experience, preparing for graduate/professional school and finding a job.  We work with undergraduates and graduate students of all majors in all Binghamton University’s schools/colleges and offer workshops, events, walk-in assistance, and individual counseling appointments to help your student explore careers, choose a major, find a job, get an internship, write a resume, develop effective interviewing skills, and apply to graduate school.
We hope the information provided in the “Parents” section of our website will help you become more familiar with our services, gain insight into how you can best support your student with career issues, and learn how you can help the Career Development Center.  Urge your student to begin using CDC services today!
